This Creamy Caramel Apple Dip combines tangy cream cheese with sweet brown sugar and rich caramel sauce to create the most addictive fall dessert dip. Ready in just 10 minutes with no baking required, it’s perfect for parties, holiday gatherings, or afternoon snacks with fresh apple slices!

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

For the Dip:

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1-2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • ½ cup caramel sauce or caramel topping, plus more for drizzling
  • 1-2 tablespoons heavy cream or milk (if needed to thin consistency)
  • Pinch of salt (optional, enhances flavor)

For Serving:

  • 4-6 fresh apples, sliced (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala)
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice (to prevent apple browning)
  • Optional toppings: chopped pecans, toffee bits, mini chocolate chips, crushed graham crackers

Instructions

  1. Prepare cream cheese: Remove cream cheese from refrigerator 30-60 minutes before starting, or microwave for 15-20 seconds to soften. It should be soft enough to easily press your finger into it but not melted or warm. This step is crucial for a smooth, lump-free dip!
  2. Beat cream cheese: In a medium mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until completely smooth and creamy with no lumps. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a rubber spatula to ensure everything gets mixed.
  3. Add brown sugar: Add the brown sugar to the cream cheese and beat for another 1-2 minutes until fully incorporated and the mixture is fluffy and smooth. The sugar should be completely dissolved with no graininess. Scrape down the bowl again.
  4. Mix in vanilla and caramel: Add the vanilla extract and ½ cup of caramel sauce. Beat on medium-low speed until everything is fully combined and the mixture is smooth and evenly colored. The dip should be a beautiful light caramel color throughout with no streaks.
  5. Adjust consistency: Check the thickness of your dip. It should be thick enough to coat a spoon but still easily dip-able. If it’s too thick, add heavy cream or milk one tablespoon at a time, beating after each addition, until you reach perfect dipping consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust: Taste the dip and adjust if needed. Add a pinch of salt to enhance flavors, more vanilla for depth, or more caramel for stronger caramel flavor. Remember, the dip will taste slightly less sweet when paired with tart apples.
  7. Transfer to serving bowl: Spoon the dip into an attractive serving bowl. Use a rubber spatula to smooth the top. Drizzle with additional caramel sauce in a decorative pattern. For extra flair, create a swirl pattern with the back of a spoon.
  8. Prepare apples: Slice apples just before serving to minimize browning. Cut into ¼-inch thick slices or wedges. Toss immediately with lemon juice to prevent oxidation. Arrange apple slices attractively around the dip bowl.
  9. Add toppings and serve: If using, sprinkle chopped pecans, toffee bits, mini chocolate chips, or other toppings over the dip. Serve immediately, or cover and refrigerate until ready to serve. If refrigerated, let sit at room temperature for 15-20 minutes before serving for best texture.

Notes

  • Room temperature cream cheese is essential: Cold cream cheese will NOT mix smoothly and will create lumps. Plan ahead and set it out early, or use the microwave method (15-20 seconds, checking carefully).
  • Consistency variations: The thickness can vary based on your cream cheese and caramel sauce brands. Adjust with cream or milk to achieve your preferred consistency.
  • Caramel sauce options: Ice cream topping works great! Look for squeeze bottles in the ice cream aisle. Salted caramel adds wonderful flavor complexity.
  • Make-ahead: This dip can be made up to 3 days ahead. Store covered in refrigerator and let come to room temperature before serving.
  • Preventing apple browning: Toss apple slices in lemon juice, lemon-lime soda, or a mixture of water and lemon juice. Granny Smith apples brown most slowly.
  • Toppings: Add toppings just before serving so they stay crunchy. Store toppings separately if making ahead.
